The Advance of the Taku Glacier
This interactive map shows the results of GPS surveys of the Taku Glacier terminus from 2001 to 2008. The 1971 terminus position, as shown on the USGS Juneau B-1 1:63,360 scale quadrangle, is also shown. The Taku Glacier began its current advance around 1890 and has since advanced approximately 6 kilometers.

The glacier continues to advance and is now approximately 1.2 kilometers from Taku Point. If the terminus were to advance to Taku Point, it would block the flow of the Taku River and create a large glacier-dammed lake. To zoom in on the map, click the map. To pan, click and drag.
